the Oum Kalsoum Museum

Palais al Manial

Built at the beginning of the 20th century to serve as a residence for Prince Mohamed Ali, son of Khedive Mohamed Tawfiq.

The palace is located on the eastern branch of the Nile on the island of Manial El Roda, surrounded by a huge botanical garden.

The architecture of the palace is a mixture of Ottoman, Moorish, Persian and European Rococo styles.

This palace has now become a museum.

The perimeter wall which surrounds the palace was built in the style of medieval fortresses,

while the facade resembles that of mosques.

The palace is made up of several buildings:

a reception palace at the entrance, a clock tower built in the Fatimid style, a Sabil or fountain, a mosque, a residence hall, the throne room built in the Ottoman style and a private museum.

Rodah's Nilometer
Le nilometre de rodah Caire

Located in the south of the island of Rodah.

It has the shape of a well that exceeds ten meters in depth.

Covered with beautiful perfectly cut limestone stones.

It is connected to the river by three tunnels spread over three levels, which operate on the principle of communicating vessels.

The well is circular at the bottom and rectangular at the top.

In the center stands a large marble column to measure the height reached by the flood.

Oum Kalsoum

Oum Kalsoum is an Egyptian singer, musician and actress, born in 1898 and died in 1975 in Cairo.

Nicknamed "the Star of the East", she is considered the greatest singer in the Arab world.

She is known for her powerful voice and songs dedicated to religion, love and the Egyptian nation.

In 2001, the Egyptian government inaugurated the Kawkab al-sharq (star of the east) museum in memory of the singer.

Located on the island of Rodah, in the park of the former palace of Hassan Fouad Pasha Al Manasterly near the Nilometer.

The museum houses a series of personal effects that belonged to Oum Kalsoum.

His famous sunglasses, scarves, handkerchiefs, dresses and other items such as:

photos, instruments, contracts, records and manuscripts of works.

Audiovisual terminals allow you to see her and hear her sing.
