Useful information:

 

The official language is Arabic but many Egyptians speak English or French, so it won't be difficult for you to communicate.

Climate: October to May are the best months to visit Egypt.

​

Alexandria has a climate closer to that of southern France.

​

Cairo already has a semi-desert climate but be careful, in winter, the days are not hot, in the morning and in the evening a jacket will be useful.

​

Luxor, Aswan have a much warmer climate.

​

Likewise for your evenings on the boat, plan a small jacket. Before leaving, check the weather forecast to give you a better idea according to your destinations.

Local time: + 1 hour compared to France, when France is in winter time and + 2 hours in summer time.

Egyptian currency and exchange:

 

the currency is the Egyptian pound (LE) but you can almost everywhere pay in euros.


In some shops and hotels you can pay with Carte Bleue.


You will also find exchange offices in large hotels.

Sanitary instructions:

​

Be careful with water, you should never drink water from the tap or from an uncapped bottle.
You will have no problems on boats and in hotels where you will find capped water bottles to buy.


Remember to take preventive measures against mosquito bites: repellents, covering clothing.

Pharmacy:

​

    • remember to bring some essential medicines for your trip, including anti-diarrhea drugs.

    • Ask your doctor for advice before you go.

 

Customs formalities:

​

    • Entering Egypt is done with your identity card (less than 10 years old) or your passport but obtaining a visa is necessary, you can buy it at the airport on your arrival.

    • Your valid identity card (under 10 years old) + 2 identity photos

    • OR your passport valid for 6 months after the return date

    • around € 20 or $ 25 in cash to be paid at the MISR bank counter

    • The authorized sum for travelers is 5,000 LE pounds upon entering the country, the excess can be seized by customs.

Additional instructions:

​

    • During your excursions you will have to visit mosques: you will have to remove your shoes and your shoulders must be covered. Be careful, tank tops are prohibited in mosques.

    • Apart from visits to places of worship, there is no sartorial constraint except that of decency.
