The area includes two lakes, connected by waterfalls, formed by an overflow of agricultural drainage water (shallalat), the only waterfalls in Egypt. You can swim there.

On the waterfall route, you will enjoy the superb landscape from the rock of Mudawarra, and the freshness of the waterfalls.

The lakes are surrounded by mountains and desert.

la valée des baleines Fayoum

Wadi Hitan ( Valley of the Whales):

The most important site in the world showing one of the major changes in the history of life on earth.

It is a nature reserve located in the middle of the sands about 40 km southwest of Qarun Lake.

The Fayoum Depression was occupied by an ocean whose waters receded more than 40 million years ago, leaving behind millions of fossils including entire skeletons of whales, turtles and sharks.

This unique site in the world was discovered recently, thanks to the desert wind which brought these treasures to light.

It has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 2
la pyramide al lahoun egypte

The Pyramid of Al Lahoun built by King Sesostris II, 12th dynasty.

Originally this pyramid was covered with blocks of fine limestone, which have disappeared today, revealing the brick core.

The entrance to the pyramid is not to the north as before, but to the south.

Access was initially via a deep well located south of the pyramid and leading to a gallery leading to a granite room.

Unfortunately, this trick did not prevent the vault from being violated.

In front of the pyramid you can also admire eight mastabas cut in the rock, and belonging to the family of Sésostris II.

la pyramide de Hawara egypte

The pyramid of Hawara , built by Amenemhat III, 12th dynasty.

Fayoum was not the king's first choice, he had already built a pyramid in Dahshur. Named the Black Pyramid because of its mud brick core.

He later chose to build a second pyramid at Hawara, in Fayoum, near the site of his grandfather Al Lahoun's monument.

It is a large complex whose mortuary temple was so vast, consisting of open courtyards and covered chambers.

The whole was nicknamed the “labyrinth” by the Greeks because of the very large number of rooms.

It is in the pyramid of this funeral complex that King Amenemhat III was buried.

The king's pyramid was built with a core of mud bricks and white limestone cladding.

The two mud brick pyramids of Amenemhat III are characterized by underground entrances, maze and secret passages.

La Pyramide de Meïdoum

The Pyramid of Meidum : Located at the entrance of the Fayoum in Egypt. it was built for King Houni, the last king of the third Dynasty. Expanded and enlarged later by his son Snefrou, eventually transformed into a smooth pyramid. About 500 meters north of the pyramid, August Mariette discovered in 1871 a necropolis from the Fourth Dynasty which groups together the tombs of princes and other important figures of the court. Thus, the mastaba of Néfermaât contained the famous painting of the Geese of Meidum, exhibited today in the Cairo museum, where one can also admire two famous painted limestone statues found in the mastaba of Rahotep and his wife Nofret.
