Departure in the morning by private air-conditioned car towards the oasis of Fayoum.

Arrival in Fayoum, visit of:

Kôm Oushim, the former KARANIS "the City of the Lord"

Initially founded by Ptolemy II to house troops, the city will become the capital of Fayoum in the Greco-Roman era.

Karanis contains two temples dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek (under the names of Pnephérôs and Petesoukhos), one dates from Greek times and the other from Roman times.

It preserves many architectural vestiges: dwellings, thermal baths, millstones and presses.

Tounes village

It is a village in the oasis of Fayoum, where Evelyne Porret and Michel Pastore, Swiss ceramists founded in 1988 a ceramics school, which welcomes students and which contributed to the installation of 7 potters in the town.

The clay used is a red clay from Aswan in Upper Egypt, delivered in powder and is prepared on site. The school buildings are made of mud bricks.

Students learn different techniques: plate shaping, modeling and turning.

Thanks to pottery, the village of Tounes is known today in Egypt, it contributes to the tourist development of the region which welcomes more and more visitors.

The Ptolemaic site of Qasr Qarun

Located west of Qarun Lake, near the modern village of Qarun.

Originally it was by the lake, today it is 4km from its shores.

During antiquity, it was the starting point of the caravan route to the oasis of Baharia.

The temple of Qasr Qarun dedicated to Sobek-Re, has a tripartite sanctuary and an astonishing maze of rooms on several levels.

On the roof you will discover a magnificent representation of the god Sobek with the body of a man and the head of a crocodile and a breathtaking view of the ancient city.

Lunch in a typical restaurant on the shores of Lake Qaroun, the largest natural lake in Egypt.

This break will allow you to enjoy a very pleasant landscape.

Return to Cairo.
