4- Excursion to El Alamein

El Alamein is a town which lies 90 km west of Alexandria. It is located in the Libyan desert, by the Mediterranean Sea.

Today it is a popular destination for Egyptians and tourists alike looking for an upscale seaside resort to stretch out, marvelous white sand beaches and a consistently pleasant climate.

Because of its fine white sand beaches, in Greco-Roman times, El Alamein was called "Locassis" which means white shell.

In El Alamein they worshiped Aphrodite, goddess of love, but during the Second World War El Alamein was the scene, in July and October 1942, of two important battles which made it possible to stop the Axis forces at the gates from Egypt and then push them back to Tunisia, thus marking a turning point in the Desert War.

You will walk in the footsteps of thousands of soldiers who forever marked the history of this city during the Second World War.

You can only be moved by the various visits to the memorials where 68,500 soldiers who lost their lives in these battles rest.
